Dr. Joseph Boggs, long-time board member for the NCADD-SFV passed away suddenly from a stroke on Thursday February 7, 2002.

Dr. Boggs practiced emergency medicine at Kaiser (Woodland Hills) and Northridge hospitals. He was a diplomat of the College of Emergency Medicine and a member of the State of California Medical Association. As an ER doctor, Dr. Boggs was able to provide a reference service to help people with their addictions. While treating their medical needs, he would give them an appointment card with the name of an individual to contact for recovery assistance. Joe's appointment card program gave hope and concrete help to many people who didn't know how to take the next crucial step towards recovery.

A memorial sevice waqs held at St. Maximalian Kobe Catholic Church in Westlake on Tuesday, February 12. A memorial fund to provide treatment scholarships has been set up in his name through the NCADD-SFV. Donations may be made to the "Joseph Boggs Jr. Memorial Fund NCADD" and sent to 14557 Friar Street, Suite 107, Van Nuys, California 91411.

NCADD-SFV Executive Director Al Jeffries said, "Joe was a dedicated member of our board for over seven years. He saw this agency become a driving force in the community for the prevention and treatment of addiction. More than that, Joe was dedicated to helping addicts and alcoholics find a way to recovery. He will be sorely missed."
